Dimitar Petrov (Mitko)
Dimitar Petrov (Mitko) is a professional choreographer of Bulgarian folk dances, a graduate of Music, Dance and Art Academy in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. For more than 35 years his main interest has been researching the unique and diverse folkore traditions and styles in all the ethnographic regions in Bulgaria.
For 26 years he performed at stages all over the world as a professional lead dancer at one of the best professional ensembles in Bulgaria (Ensemble Trakia – Plovdiv) under the leadership of one of the best dancing teachers – professor Kiril Djenev.
Since 1995 he has been a choreographer of the Children and Youth Folk-Dance Ensemble in Plovdiv, where he trained 250 children from the age of 6 to18.
His folk-dance club “Charodeitsi” for people of all ages who want to learn traditional Bulgarian dances celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2017.
Dimitar Petrov (Mitko) has been a guest dance-teacher at workshops for traditional Bulgarian and Balkan dances regularly in Austria, Hungary, England, Taiwan, Macedonia, Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium where there is a great interest in Bulgarian and Balkan dances.
His stage choreographies of traditional Bulgarian folklore for ensemble Iglika - Bulgaria, ensemble Martenitsa –Budapest, Balkan- Bekeshaba, Ensemble Kitka – Vienna have enjoyed great success at festivals and folk events.
He has been organizing folk tours for groups of people from all over the world in Bulgaria. They have the chance to learn Bulgarian dances, to play a traditional Bulgarian instrument, to see the beautiful country, to visit some historical places and above all – to spend some unforgettable days in Bulgaria.
He has co-choreographed the following dances with International Choreographer, Ira Weisburd (USA): Aleni Zvezdi - Bulgaria, Delchevska Devetka – Macedonia and Rrushja e Lales – Albania, Lihnida - Macedonia and Bratsko oro - Macedonia.
He has also choreographed Line dances, the post popular being Suavemente Besame, Zeibekiko, Rina Rina, Party line dance, Come on, Come,on and co-choreographed the dance Mi Amor with Ira Weisburd.
